Buford High School Dress Code Policy
Shirts:
Solid colored crew or collared
Colors: white, black, gold, green, or gray
Crew neck shirts must surround the base of the neck. No V-Neck shirts.
Collared shirts must have the collar attached to the placket. For example, a polo-style shirt, a button-down collared shirt, or a tailored dress shirt.
Only the top two buttons of a shirt may be unbuttoned.
Turtle neck shirts are allowed.
Length must reach past the waist band, but no longer than the inseam.
Logos must be integrated into the fabric of the shirt and no larger than the size of a quarter.
May include spirit wear t-shirts. Spirit wear is defined as preprinted Buford HS t-shirts and sweatshirts. Spirit shirts may have graphics on the front AND the back as long as the following criteria is met:
* The shirt must be Buford originated; not homemade.
* The fabric must be solid grey, green, gold, black, or white.
* The graphics must be grey, green, gold, black, or white. No other colors will be accepted unless approved by the administration.
* The back of the shirt may display only student identification (name and/or number), event name, or sponsors.
May include solid colored or spirit wear sweatshirts/pullovers in white, black, green, gold, or gray.
Undershirts are not required. However, if undershirts are worn, grey, black, or white are required.
Don’ts: multi-colored shirts (even in school colors); oversized shirts (in length or width – shirts cannot be longer than fingertips of student)); shirts with a revealing or low neckline; sleeveless shirts; see through tops; sweatshirts/"hoodies" that do not have a Buford insignia; black shirts with black pants
Pants:
Solid color in appropriate size
Colors: khaki (various shades from stone to camel), black
Boys may wear pants or shorts (must be at the waist level).
Girls may wear pants, shorts, skirts, capris, and skorts--length must be the length of the width of the agenda book from the bottom of the knee.
Corduroy and flat cargo style pockets are acceptable.
Don’ts: pants with colors or designs on pockets or legs; oversized pants (in length or width); pants, shorts, or skirts with frayed hems; cut-off shorts; any other color pants, including brown; gym shorts or sweatpants; pants or shorts with holes, visible zippers, or straps; exposed undergarments; black pants with black shirts
Accessories:
No oversize belt buckles with graphics or drawings.
No hats, head coverings, bandanas, sunglasses, or hair picks
No towels, shirts, bandanas, or other objects may hang from pants/shorts pockets.
No inappropriate body piercing that may be considered disruptive to the learning environment.
Handbags and purses may not be used to transport books.
Bookbags are not allowed. Bookbags must be placed in lockers immediately upon arrival at school and can only be taken out when student leaves school campus. Students must transport PE clothes in mesh bags, NOT bookbags. Bookbags include any bags that are carried over the shoulder, whether transporting clothes, accessories, school supplies, or any other items.
Bookbags are not allowed at athletic functions.
Socks:
Must be solid black, white, khaki, green, gold, or gray.
Socks with designs or other colors are not acceptable.
Outerwear:
Students may wear their choice of outerwear to school; however, any outerwear worn inside the building must follow the dress code policy.
School letter jackets may be worn during school hours.
Solid colored or spirit wear sweatshirts/pullovers in white, black, green, gold, or gray may be worn during school hours.
Trench coats may not be worn at any time—before, during, or after school.
All other outerwear must be stored in lockers during school hours.
Spirit Wear:
Spirit Days are designated by the administration. On Spirit Days, students will follow the BHS Dress Code with the option of these variations:
Shirts:
Homemade spirit shirts (must be approved by an administrator in advance)
Pants:
Traditional/green camouflage pants
Blue jeans with no rips, holes, tears, designs, colors, patches, or frayed edges
Athletic Game-Day Clothing:
Athletes may wear clothing outside the dress code policy on game-day if approved by an administrator. It is the coach’s responsibility to make the request with an administrator, and he/she will inform the athletes of the dates and appropriate clothing.
Administration Approved Out-of-Compliance Days:
Upon permission from the administration and the classroom instructor, students may dress out of compliance for special occasions (field trips, presentations, etc.). Only the color may be out of compliance on these days. Blouses, dresses, and shirts must be tight to the neck. Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be the length of the width of the agenda book from the bottom of the knee.
The Buford High School administration shall provide exceptions as to not infringe on sincere religious beliefs or physical disabilities or limitations. School administration reserves the right to remove a student from class and request that the student change clothes before returning to class. A student in violation may be subject to such disciplinary actions as further set forth in the Student Handbook and Disciplinary Code.
