Quiz Bowl

ACADEMIC (QUIZ) BOWL

Advisor: Mr. Jeff Gillis
Purpose: The Academic Bowl Team provides an opportunity for academically gifted students to demonstrate their knowledge in competition with the best and the brightest from other schools. There is weekly practice for the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. 

Band

Advisors: Mr. Erik Mason & Mrs. Bridget Wildes
Purpose: The Buford Band of Wolves is a co-curricular activity for students enrolled in band classes. The band performs at all football games and competes multiple times in the fall. Students work to further refine their musical skills while also learning the tenets of excellence, commitment, and pride. Color guard is also a part of the marching band and open to all students. Registration for the marching band and auditions for color guard are held in April of each year.

Beta

BETA CLUB

Advisor: Ms. Leah Curtright
Purpose: The Beta Club is a club that promotes character, service and leadership, rewards students’ excellent academic achievement, and encourages students to continue their educations after high school.

Book ClubBOOK CLUB

Advisor: Mr. Jeff Gillis

Purpose: The Buford High School Book Club seeks to promote and celebrate reading for pleasure. All students are welcome to come and share in meaningful and lighthearted conversation over a common text. The BHS Book Club will meet monthly to discuss, suggest, and revel in exciting literature.

BUFORD STUDENT LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

Advisor: Mr. Tim Harris, Mrs. Bethany Phillips, Ms. Makimsey Morris 
Purpose: BSLT is a faculty-selected group that undergoes intense training to produce influential leaders. In turn, the students lead their peers to success through positive reinforcement and constructive criticism. 

CHESS CLUB

Advisor: Mr. Patrick Shawcross
Purpose: In this club, students enjoy strategizing about the game of chess and competing with their peers.

Purpose: To empower BHS students with the skills of expressing their beliefs clearly, concisely, and respectfully by developing and using public speaking and effective communication skills and staying aware of current events in the world.

Purpose: DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

DIVERSITY CLUB

Purpose: The Diversity Club is open to all BHS students. Students will have opportunities to participate in activities to learn about the importance of accepting and appreciating diversity. The ultimate goal is to improve awareness of diverse issues while making a positive impact on the school, district and community.

FBLA

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA

Advisor: Mrs. Cheri Edwards & Mrs. Monica Hadley
Purpose: FBLA inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. This club participates in local community service and regional, state and national competitions.

FAMILY, CAREER, & COMMUNITY LEADERS OF AMERICA

Advisor: Mrs. Jennifer Lopez & Mrs. Margaret Beshiri
Purpose: To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

HOPE CLUB

Purpose: HoPe is an organization focused on providing students a pathway through high school. HOSA CLUB

Purpose: HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100% health care!

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Advisor: Mrs. Jennifer Pinkerton

Purpose: The National Honor Society (NHS) is an academic honor society for 11th and 12th grade students committed to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Members must have an unrounded academic percent of 95.0 or higher and are invited to join during the fall of their junior year. Students in NHS organize and conduct student-led projects to serve our community.

Purpose: NAHS explores various mediums and methods for creating art in a community of inspired artists. The purpose of the National Art Honor Society is to inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding ability and interest in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

Skills USA

SKILLS USA

Advisor: Mr. Nick Beshiri, Ms. Kateria Bogans, and Coach Casey Laws
Purpose: SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. We provide educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms. This club participates in local community service and regional, state and national competitions.

SPANISH CLUB

Purpose: The Spanish Club furthers student knowledge of the Spanish language and culture.

 

 

THESPIAN SOCIETY

Purpose: The Thespian Society gives students who are interested and talented in acting and musical theatre the opportunity to express themselves through other characters. 

Tri-M

TRI-M MUSIC SOCIETY

Advisor: Bridget Wildes & Taylor Greer
Purpose: Tri-M is a national music honor society for student musicians at Buford High School, organized through the National Association for Music Education. Being a member of the Buford Tri-M chapter allows students to perform for and serve the community, while gaining valuable leadership experience, and the opportunity to apply for national music scholarships. Students must be currently enrolled in a band, chorus or orchestra class and maintain a 3.5 Fine Arts GPA. Students are eligible after they complete the first year of a pathway in the high school music program.
