Which Shakespearean play will you choose to read beginning next week? in Google Classroom

Which Shakespearean play will you choose to read beginning next week?

You have the choice of what to read to finish the semester. Both are Shakespearean plays, and while each play is very different from the other, both are widely read and highly regarded. The two plays are:
1. The great history that doubles as a tragedy about the Roman Dictator / Savior (depending your point of view) **Julius Caesar**
2. The comedy that doubles as a satire about love and gender expectations **The Taming of the Shrew**

We will have groups reading both and I will put you in whatever play you prefer … no changing plays after we start. Submit your selection before the end of this week.

Due:

Benchmark Two in Google Classroom

Benchmark Two

Benchmark Two consists of 25 multiple choice questions drawn from 2 reading passages, Word Clues, and MLA.

If you are satisfied with your grade from Benchmark One, you can choose to opt out of Benchmark Two by posting a comment here "Opt Out". When I see this comment, I will take your Benchmark One score and copy it into your Benchmark Two score.

If you take Benchmark Two but score higher on Benchmark One, I will disregard your score on Benchmark Two and instead copy your score from Benchmark One for Benchmark Two.

All that's to say, I strongly encourage you to take Benchmark Two, regardless of how you did on Benchmark One. I can not put in a score lower than your Benchmark One grade.

So today - either take Benchmark Two, *OR* reply in a comment "Opt Out." Everyone must do one or the other.

TED Talk Speech Presentation in Google Classroom

TED Talk Speech Presentation

Attach the Youtube, GoogleDrive (or other) link to your TED Talk Speech Video here. Remember the goal is a 4 minute presentation (3-5 minutes target window). I will use the rubric found on page four in the assignment packet to assess your TED Talk Speech Presentation. This will count a 50 point major assignment (test) grade and is due before midnight on Friday. Remember you may also present LIVE via Zoom on Thursday, if you think your presentation would benefit from it. The signup for live presentations can be found on an earlier post here on GClassroom.

I look forward to seeing your faces, hearing your voices, and all the smart things you will share about your chosen topics! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Watch ONE of the following three Ted Talks and post an answer to the question below here on google classroom. (10 pt daily grade)

Question:
Tell us what Ted Talk you watched.
Describe the speaker’s style (what tone did they use, did they incorporate humor, etc.) What idea/moment from the Ted Talk stands out to you as the most powerful moment and why (Ex: a story, an example, a visual, a specific line said, etc?) Were there any weak moments? If so, explain.

Tuesday, March 31st: TED Talk Outline Due

Outlines are due today (50 pt writing grade) - Be sure to attach AND submit before midnight.
If you make lower than a 45/50, you will be asked to revise until it reaches that point.
PLEASE review the rubric provided and double check your formatting. Be sure to have in-text citations for your sources.

Due:

Wednesday, March 25 in Google Classroom

Wednesday, March 25

Continue yesterday’s work. Be sure to have a roman numeral for every major point. You can have more roman numerals than the example provided, but be mindful of your time limitation. We want these to be 4 minute presentations.

Your last Roman Numeral should serve as your Conclusion. Consider what you want to leave the audience with - a call to action? A challenging idea? A concluding wise statement that reiterates your whole message? Leave the audience “chewing” on something.

Please attach your outline here in its working form for a quick check. DO NOT SUBMIT, however.

At the end of the day today, I plan to look to see that you have adequately developed your introduction - Roman Numeral I and that you have moved into your next Roman Numerals and have at least ONE fully supported with A,B, etc. and the parenthetical research source info where appropriate. This check will count as a 10 point writing grade, and will be made AFTER you've had the full day today to work on it.

I will be hosting a Zoom meeting at 2pm to offer feedback and answer questions. Here are the details of how to join:

Topic: TED Talk Outlining Meeting (3rd Period)
